CSM (R) Mac McAdams

Lifetime of Military LeadershipSergeant Major Leonard "Mac" McAdams dedicated over 40 years of his life to military service. Drafted into the U.S. Army in March 1968 at the height of the Vietnam War, his natural leadership qualities—honed as a youth in Scouting—led to his rapid selection for the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Candidate Course. He served in Vietnam starting in 1969, stepping into leadership roles that built a foundation for a long and distinguished military career.

Mac served 41 years in uniform, training cadets and teaching leadership as First Sergeant for Officer Candidate School (OCS). In 2005, he deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom as Sergeant Major with the 182nd Military Police Task Force Dragons, where he oversaw vital operations, route reconnaissance, and detention security. Following his graduation from the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) in 2007, he served as Provost Marshal Sergeant Major for the 40th Infantry Division. Upon reaching mandatory military retirement on his 62nd birthday in December 2009, Mac immediately joined the Federal Police Officer corps at the VA Hospital, continuing his oath to serve.
